Jerry Dennis has been a lifelong student, researcher, and teacher on a variety of subjects regarding the Bible, history of the periods covering the Old and New Testaments, church history, and theology.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in religion and the Bible from ButlerUniversity in Indianapolis. He also received an academic Master’s degree from Christian Theological Seminary, a highly regarded ecumenical seminary, also located in Indianapolis. He received honors degrees from both institutions.
Mr. Dennis was an executive staff member for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) serving at the Pension Fund of the Christian Church for several years. Following the Pension Fund, he was instrumental in starting a state bank in a suburb of Indianapolis, where he was an executive officer.
He later relocated to Florida where he helped start a national bank, as an organizing director, and owned and operated a mortgage company and an appraisal service. During all of this time, Mr. Dennis continued to fill pulpits as a supply minister, and he served in just about every lay leadership position in the church from Deacon Chairman, to Elder Chairman, Trustee, Treasurer, Adult Church School teacher, and Chairman of the Board.
But during all this time, covering some thirty plus years, the primary area of interest for Mr. Dennis has been continued research covering the Bible, biblical history, church history, and theology. He has researched, written the curriculum, and taught over twenty different adult classes in subjects ranging from Introduction to the Old and New Testaments, Ancient Hebrew History, Literary Traditions and Textural Criticisms of the Bible, Roman History during the Biblical Era, Christians in the First Century, Formation of the EarlyChurch, Basic Christian Theology, Philosophers vs. Theologians, the Beginnings of the Church under Constantine, and other subjects.
His primary concerns all these years have been the corruption of the basic Christian Gospel by misinformation, misunderstanding, misquoting the Bible, and general misuse of the Bible, both intentional and unintentional. In this series he will try to condense all of his previous classes into an overview of Christian beliefs to help the listener to develop their own personal belief system based on a clearer understanding of the Bible and the original basic Christian Gospel. Hopefully it will help the listener to sort through the confusion and controversy that has grown up around the Christian movement over these last 2,000 years.
